💉 Mechanism of action and absorption
The active ingredient is absorbed. The medicine is prepared in the form of micronized crystals, which doubles the body's ability to absorb it.
After being absorbed into the bloodstream, griseofulvin travels to the skin and is deposited in the basal cells of the epidermis. When these cells harden (keratinize), they retain enough of the drug to inhibit the growth of dermatophytes.
The antifungal effect begins 4 days after the start of treatment. The drug appears on the entire skin surface after 15 to 30 days , depending on the thickness of the skin and its growth rate.
🐶 Indications and dosage
It is used to treat cutaneous mycoses caused by Trichophyton, Microsporum, and Epidermophyton fungi in dogs and cats , as well as laboratory and exotic animals.
🗓️ Method of administration and recommended doses: The medication is given orally.
- Dogs: 20-40-60 mg per kg of body weight, for 3 to 6 weeks.
- Cats: 30-60 mg per kg of body weight daily, for 4 weeks.
Special note for dogs and cats: Single doses of 150 mg per kg of body weight may also be given once a week, preferably accompanied by a high-fat diet to improve absorption.
Additional advice: Topical application of Griseofulvina Cream is recommended as an adjunctive treatment to prevent the spread of fungal spores.
⚠️ Contraindications and precautions
- It is prohibited to use it in pregnant animals.
- Not to be used in animals under 60 days of age.
