Specially designed for raising betta fish, also known as Betta splendens, a tropical fish characterized by its bright colors and long, beautiful fins.
The tank is designed to keep betta fish in one tank with a divider to prevent them from seeing each other and fighting, as betta fish are aggressive towards each other.
Aquarium environment and fish care
- Water Temperature : The betta fish is a tropical fish, so it needs warm water. The water temperature should be between 24 and 27°C (76-81°F) . This may require the use of a small water heater in colder regions.
- Water quality : Betta fish are sensitive to water quality. Conditioned water, free of chlorine and chloramine, should be used. A portion of the water (about 25-30%) should be changed once a week to maintain cleanliness.
- Filter : Although betta fish can breathe from the surface of the water, using a filter helps keep the water clean. Choose a low-flow filter to avoid stressing the fish or damaging its delicate fins.
- Decor and Plants : Betta fish love hiding places. Place natural or artificial plants (with smooth edges to avoid tearing their fins) and fine gravel at the bottom of the tank.
Feeding betta fish
- Diet : Betta fish are carnivores (insect eaters), so their diet should consist of specially formulated pellets or flakes. Variety can be added by adding dried or frozen bloodworms or brine shrimp.
- Feeding quantity : The fish should be fed once or twice a day in very small amounts, approximately the size of the fish's eye. Overfeeding leads to obesity, bloating, and water contamination with food residue.
social behavior
- Males : Each male fighter should be kept in a tank completely separate from other males to avoid violent fighting that could lead to death. Divided tanks, such as the one pictured, allow two males to be kept in a single enclosure with a barrier.
- Females : Several females can be kept together in one large tank, with hiding places provided.
